The following text and explanations are provided to help you if you have any questions while filling out our HSA form.
They are in order across from each of the five sections where possible.
Pool Owner & Location

Pool Dealer

Although you may be able to install your Heat Siphon yourself or you intend to use another contractor for installation, we would still like to know who built your pool.
YOUR POOL DATA
This is the most important section (other than your contact info). Please give us as much information as you can about your pool or spa or combo system.
In the first section make sure you select one item in each box that applies to your system.
Please tell us if you have a heater what fuel it uses so we can make sure the cost is accurate for the payback analysis and the operating cost comparison. Our marketing department always interested in what brand and model it is.
Desired Water Temp
The water temperature you desire is also important. The default 82F is what most pool owners use. Spas are typically 100 to 102 F.
The volume is not critical but we use together with your pool depth to double check your pool area and vice versa.
Your pool SURFACE AREA is CRITICAL to the results.
Because pool heat loss is directly proportional to the surface area of your pool NOT THE VOLUME, please make sure you are as accurate as can be in specifying the size of your pool.

Wind is specified at the water surface and normal is 2.5 mph for a wind speed of 10 mph at 10 feet elevation (which is how most weather stations measure it).
Unless you are on a hilltop or in a windy unsheltered location use NORMAL-2.5mph.
Hours/Day Covered
It doesn't matter what type of cover you use, IT SAVES 50% OF YOUR POOL HEATING COST. It prevents the biggest source of heat loss - evaporation. For every gallon of water you replace in your pool you lose 8000 BTU's of heat.
Be realistic and specify overnight (12 hrs/day) cover use. Very few people are diligent enough to "uncover only when swimming"
Pump Size/Runtime
We even calculate the extra electric cost of additional pump runtime if Heat Siphon needs to run longer than your pool pump timer setting. Default is 24hrs - change it if you use a time clock and don't forget to include the pump size (HP or Kw) A 1HP (120v) or 1.5HP (220v) usually runs on a 15 amp breaker, while a 2HP uses a 20 amp breaker. Larger sizes are rare on residential pools.
Open/Close Dates
Don't forget to pick the date you want to open and close your pool - for outdoor pools this is limited to average daily air temperatures above 50F to avoid icing problems (both you and the heat pump).
Local Fuel Costs
Please provide your local fuel cost.
Look at your bill if you don't know - divide the total amount by the number of Kilowatt-hours (KWH) of electricity for the cost per KWH.
For Natural Gas divide the bill total by the number of MCF (1000 cu ft) of natural gas used. A Therm is 100,000 btu's while an MCF is a million btu's
(10 therms),

Installed Heater Cost
Please provide the approximate
INSTALLED COST or total purchase price for each type of heater you
wish to compare in the fuel cost savings payback analysis. A graph
will be provided showing the number of seasons required to recover
the difference in cost. Heat Siphon is virtually ALWAYS the lowest
cost pool heating method.
